[nokonoko journal] Priceless Latte

At the café located in the temple’s parking.
I told him I just dropped by to make a wish. He said “I made a wish for you”

Cute Ksitigarbha floating in the latte. Thank you master.

[nokonoko journal] Autumn may soon be over

It's getting colder. I gave up, and pulled out Kotatsu today.

haunt me: More you becomes you

My all-time favorite. Fragile piano sound to off-key voice, love everything about this album.

Whisper #150-182

#150
The professionals

#151
You shouldn’t be surprised. Because that’s not something just came up. It was part of them from the beginning. You just didn’t know it.

#152
The art of expressing things by not saying them.

#153
Somewhere between admiration and acknowledgement

#154
This cappuccino makes me cry.

#155
Those dinner plates didn’t work as an insurance.

#156
Young waitress in Vegas earns more than a doctor.

#157
Goldfish gathers in the shadow.

#158
We didn’t have common language to communicate. But she was eager to talk to me. We pulled up our dictionary, notebook and pens. We looked up many words, drew pictures and exchanged gestures. We tried for 6 hours.

#159
It was her return flight to her hometown. She visited her husband but he was too busy to be with her. She spent 3 months in solitude, because she doesn’t know anyone nor understand the word people say.

#160
She just wanted to tell someone how lonely she was.

#161
We didn’t exchange names but we talked so many things about ourselves. Family, work, friends, society around us, past. We only had 6 hours. And we both knew we will never meet again.

#162
I still think about her sometimes. I hope she’s well.

#163
(She said she has a young lover in town.)

#164
Baking in the middle of typhoon

#165
If you watch Gibli movie and cry, you’re an adult. Kids will laugh out loud when they watch it.

#166
It's been a year already. I thought you were joking. I laughed and mildly shocked. But I really didn't understand what you meant.

#167
What do they do? Don’t they always say nasty things to nice people and try to stop them?

#168
Come closer, here it’s safe.

#169
Creating an error-free obedient android girl of your dreams?
That’s funny. You know you’ll get bored if everything goes as you imagined.

#170
People say Japanese people are afraid of speaking English. From my experience, people who mock their English the most are Japanese.

#171
At the business dinner table, he was the highest rank and I was the lowest.
He was the only person who stood up when I returned from the bathroom.

#172
Ah, my Eliza Doolittle moment.

#173
But later I understood that the gentlemanliness is in fact an attitude to show off to other men, not ladies.

#174
This moment. This, this, this moment.

#175
I think your magic is fading.

#176
My mind was made up to do it until I turned that corner.
That gas station corner had some power to bring me back to the mundane life.

#177
2 months later, I decided to choose another route. So I didn’t have to turn that corner.

#178
If your audience didn't laugh at your joke, check if your joke was funny before blaming the interpreters.

#179
You always forget to capitalize letters. You must be a programmer.

#180
Absolute distance between us

#181
You don't have to relate or justify your contradiction. You don't even need to hide that there is. I'll understand.

#182

[nokonoko journal] Udon-don-don-don

According to the news I saw this morning, finally there may be some change to Japan's "no dancing" law. I mean... it'd better be... otherwise we gotta keep kneading Udon all night long (which is a brilliant idea though)

[nokonoko journal] Sunny day

Typhoon has just left this morning. And on a sunny day before that, I went for a drive with my mom.

At “Den-en Plaza Kawaba” in Kawaba village, Gunma.

It was for grape flavor, not purple-potato flavor icecream.
(You know there are many fan for this icecream signage...)

This Onigiri was the reason why we visited here. Kawaba village has their own rice brand called "Yukihotaka" and this place is selling Onigiri made with that. It’s a new crop season, so we wanted to try their 2014 rice. It was really good, perfect for Onigiri.

There was a hotel with private steam locomotive. They have very short rail track and guest can ride. (In fact, you can still ride SL in Gunma)

Fax machine: Now and Then

Arg.. I gotta buy a new toner for Fax…

It sounds like a joke in this internet era, but Facsimile communication IS still quite active in Japan. Even though they have email address printed on the name card, I often hear “Fax me the details” or “please don’t send any documents via email, use Fax number” (this happens when you deal with traditional companies or public offices). So often that I actually bought a new Fax machine a couple of years ago. Yes, shops are still selling many models, and new machine got “Save As JPG” features addition to Preview (check before printout) features…

Speaking of Fax, I used to exchange Fax letters with my friend every day. That was several months after we entered high school, and through some conversation my classmate and I discovered that we both have Fax machine at home. We didn’t know each other so well at that point, but somehow we are excited about it and decided to send Fax to each other.

But since we both use the Fax machine installed in our parents’ home office, we needed some good excuses (we’re good girls) So we decided to send each other some problems from the study guide or textbook we have. And it was great for me because she was very smart and extremely good at every subject (but she did all effortlessly) and I thought I could learn from her…

I think we both imagined that this Fax exchange thing would be over after 2 to 3 times. But it was just so fun. First we started as “A-student letter” – lots of questions/problems and 2-3 lines of personal message. But as we went on, we added some drawing around the problems, change layouts, and message part got bigger and bigger :) It was like an exchanging diary, we wrote what we like and think, the music we’re listening, and what we want to do after highschool… etc etc and naturally, this message part is the most fun part… :)

We continued after the first grade is over, and when we realized, we continued till graduation. In these 3 years, that “received" beep sound from the fax machine was something I looked forward to the most in everyday life.

18 years later, now she’s a doctor and a mother of two, I’m single and still studying English (wow, no progress on my end..:D) we occasionally exchange emails instead of Fax letters… But I still relate her voice to her handwriting... I dearly miss them.

[nokonoko journal] And we're in October

...this place was supposed to be a candid rural life thing, right? (asking to myself)

I've been busy and stuck in my room for a week, gotta go outside and bask in the sun before the huge typhoon comes..........
